Luxury Ski Resort Homes Are Still Selling for Millions

One exclusive property in Aspen is priced at $52 million
Even though ski resort real estate has dropped in price along with most other real estate in the country, luxury ski resort homes are still selling for quite a bit. Indeed, in some of the most expensive ski resort markets, homes are still selling for tens of millions of dollars.

One of those markets is Aspen. The Aspen ski resort market has long been recognized as pricey. And, even though many of the more middle priced homes are selling for between 75% and 85% of their original asking price, the most luxurious of ski resort homes are still quite expensive. One home just sold for $43 million, off the market, in Aspen, and there are two more homes on the market for $43 million in the Aspen ski resort area.

But the real coup is a home that is going for $52 million right now. The Street describes this king among luxury ski resort homes, located in Elk Song Ranch:

This 20,000-square-foot snowbeast doesn't need slopes or a resort; Guests can ski on its 67 acres, party in its billiards and pinball room, drink at the bar, work out in the gym, swim in the pool or play hockey on the pond. Where's the owner while his buddies are scuffing the 100-year-old oak floors? He's in a private wing with a separate entrance, full kitchen and office space.

Apparently the recession hasn't quite dampened the upper-upper end of the real estate market.
