| February 28, 2009 | | Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Massachusetts makes use of wind power | Jiminy Peak ski resort, located in Hancock, Massachusetts, claims to be the first ski resort in North America to use wind power as a source of energy. Whether or not it appears to be true, the windmill, known as Zephyr, appears to be saving money for the ski resort. CNN reports on the savings seen by Jiminy Peak:
Zephyr works its magic to produce about a third of Jiminy Peak's electric needs, shaving $450,000 a year from the resort's energy bill. To put that in perspective, the energy from the turbine is enough to power more than 600 homes.
It's an interesting look at how alternative energy can be practical for a ski resort -- and for filling other energy needs.
