Kirkwood Ski Area Adding Green Wind Power

Wind power for ski resorts a growing trend
Green wind energy and ski resortsIt really does seem perfect: Green wind power to provide for the needs of a ski resort. And it's becoming more popular to use wind power to supplement energy needs -- or even completely provide for them.

It is no surprise that one of the leading areas bent on using wind power for ski resorts is in California. California has long been viewed as a leader in green energy and sustainability. Kirkwood Ski Area hopes to use green wind power to make the resort more sustainable. Ski Area Management reports on what is needed for the Kirkwood Ski Area to make a successful conversion to wind energy:

“Our goal is for Kirkwood to become the renewable energy leader in the ski resort industry,” said Tim Cohee, Chief Marketing Officer of Mountainsprings Kirkwood, the parent company of both Kirkwood Mountain Resort and Mountain Utilities. “It will take a significant commitment not only from the resort and power companies, but from our residents, guests and regulatory partners including the Forest Service. That said, I cannot imagine anything more important for us as an industry at this point.”

Kirkwood is not the first ski resort area to use green wind power, however. Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Massachusetts is also using wind power. If ski resorts can successfully implement green wind energy, it provides a model for other business operations.
