Ski Resort Community Profile: Lake Tahoe

A vibrant community in a beautiful setting
Lake Tahoe ski resort

Lake Tahoe straddles the California and Nevada border in northern areas of both states. Most people think of Lake Tahoe in terms of summer activities -- especially boating, water skiing, kayaking. And, while Lake Tahoe is a great place for summer vacations, family reunions and weddings, there are plenty of winter activities as well.

Because Lake Tahoe is situated between Nevada and California, many people assume that the area is hot year-round -- and that it might even be desert. However, its mountain elevation and its place to the north means that there is plenty of snow for wintertime activities from skiing to snowshoeing.

Living in Lake Tahoe

There are thriving neighborhoods and communities in Lake Tahoe. Shopping, dining, entertainment (including plenty of live music) and schools all provide the amenities and needs of a year-round stable community.

Lake Tahoe is divided into two main sections: North Shore and South Shore. The lake is large, and there are communities on either end that provide warmth and welcome -- whether you come during the summer months or during the winter months.

Skiing Lake Tahoe

  • Alpine Meadows
  • Heavenly Mountain Resort
