Ski Resort Community Profile: Sun Valley

Sun Valley ski resort offers a combination of the Wild West and Europe
Sun Valley ski resort

Sun Valley was opened in 1936. It is often referred as America's first ski resort. In the heart of the wild and untamed West, a patch of sophisticated Europe was created. However, even with that intention initially, the attempt to preserve some of the West has been successfully made. Sun Valley ski resort is an interesting blend of cowboy and cosmopolitan.

Located in the beautiful mountains of central Idaho, Sun Valley, for all its luxury, also exudes a certain ruggedness. In the early days, it could only be reached by rail. (Indeed, its luxury in isolation, and its access to the rugged beauties of nature, is what drew Earnest Hemingway to Sun Valley.) Now, Sun Valley is easier to get to, and it sports even more amenities.
