| October 14, 2008 | | Aspen Skiing Co. optimistic about upcoming season | Tomorrow marks the beginning of the ski season as Arapahoe Basin opens at 9 a.m. with a single lift. It is the earliest opening in the country, and other Colorado ski areas are expected to open soon, and there is great optimism for this year's season.
In particular, Aspen is looking forward to the ski season. Aspen Skiing Co. is optimistic about this year's prospects, reports Rocky Mountain News:
Resort vice president David Perry said this week that season pass sales
are up, bookings are healthy for most of the season and Aspen has held
on to most of its air service at a time when other resort towns are
losing seats.
Of course, airfare is still expensive, but many of the people that ski at the luxury Aspen ski resort have been less affected by the economy. And, besides, the U.S. dollar remains relatively weak, drawing tourists from abroad.
