Ski Resort Profile: Alta, Utah

Alta ski resort offers some of the best skiing in the country

One of the best ski resorts in the country -- in terms of snow -- is Alta in Utah. Located a little more than a half an hour from Salt Lake City, Alta offers a unique skiing experience, set in the mountains.

Alta ski resort offers some pretty impressive credentials in terms of snow:
  • Dry powder (some of the driest and deepest in the nation).
  • More than 2,000 acres for skiing
  • Large, comfortable lodge.
  • Great pricing (including pre-season discounts on passes).
Another unique feature of the Alta ski resort is that it is one of the few places left that does not allow snowboarders. Additionally, a pass at Alta is good at Snowbird, and now those two resorts are linked, making it easy to access Snowbird from Alta.

Alta ski resort also offers special classes aimed at youth, as well as separate skiing events for women who are interested in honing their skills.

Activities for the rest of the year

Alta's lovely mountain setting makes it ideal for other activities throughout the year. Rafting, hiking, boating, fishing and mountain biking are all possibilities. There is also the strong possibility of seeing such wildlife as mountain goats, deer and birds of prey.

Alta also hosts Sunday brunch (you can look at the beautiful wild flowers) as well as fall wine and food pairings in one weekend.
