Save Money on Your Ski Vacation: Rent a Time Share

Enjoy ski resort luxury without the luxury price

If you are looking to save money on a ski vacation, you might consider renting a timeshare. There are a number of timeshares available in most ski resort markets. You don't need to buy one; you can rent for the weekend or the week from someone who isn't using theirs -- or from a hotel developer that is trying to fill up units since the real estate market crash.

You do have to be careful, though, since you might find limited choices for dining, and housekeeping may be irregular. But, for the most part, the ski resort luxury of a suite of rooms, kitchen and swimming pool (not to mention the possibility of ski-in/ski-out), can be had for a steep discount.

Luxury Hotels Bring Glamour to Ski Resorts

Luxury ski resort real estate opening, even with the recession

Even though many ski communities have been hard hit by the recent recession and real estate market crash, it hasn't stopped luxury real estate developments. Indeed, many luxury hotels at ski resorts are moving forward, and opening in the midst of these tough times. The Street has some of the highlights of luxury hotels at ski resorts:

  • Aava Whistler Hotel: Opening just in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics at Whistler ski resort.
  • Front Four Private Residence Club: Offering high-end suites at Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont.
  • Waldorf Astoria: Opening in time for Sundance next year, this luxury ski resort real estate will be at the base of The Canyons in Park City, Utah.
  • St. Regis Deer Crest: This luxury hotel is operated by Starwood Hotels & Resorts World Wide, and just opened at Deer Valley ski resort near Park City.
  • Viceroy Snowmass: The latest luxury hotel offering near Aspen, Colorado.
  • Ritz Carlton: Lake Tahoe saw the opening of a luxury Ritz Carlton hotel, the first new build ski resort in Lake Tahoe for decades.

Ritz Carlton Gets Ready to Welcome Its First Lake Tahoe Ski Resort

First new-build ski resort development in Lake Tahoe for decades gets ready this ski season
The Ritz Carlton at the Lake Tahoe ski resort is getting ready to open on December 9. This is the first new build ski resort real estate development in the Lake Tahoe area for decades, and people are getting ready for a rather luxurious experience. Webwire reports on the new Lake Tahoe ski resort:

The first new-build resort development in the Lake Tahoe area in decades, it is situated mid-mountain in the Northstar-at-Tahoe ski resort, with an inter-mountain gondola to offer ease of access to the slopes and the hotel. After a day of skiing, guests of The Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe can rest and relax at the 17,000 square foot Highlands Spa, where treatments and therapies are themed around water and the woods.

Adjacent to the resort, The Ritz-Carlton Club, Lake Tahoe offers two to four bedroom fractional residences with mountain and valley views of the Sierra Nevada. The fractional ownership project prices range from the low $200,000s to more than $700,000 per interest.

It's not hard to see why this luxury ski resort is being anticipated by the skiing elite. While there were issues with local residents, it is unlikely that this ski season will be a disappointment for high-end tourists coming to enjoy luxury ski resort real estate.
